Key Findings

Finding 1: AI vs Traditional Conversion

The fundamental difference is approach:

  • Traditional tools (Adobe, SmallPDF, etc.) do format mapping β€” they try to recreate the PDF's visual layout in PowerPoint shapes and text boxes.
  • AI conversion (Sharayeh) does content understanding β€” it reads the document, understands its structure, and generates slides that communicate the same information in slide format.

Traditional format mapping struggles with multi-column layouts, headers/footers, watermarks, and page numbers β€” all of which get converted as slide content. AI conversion intelligently skips decorative elements and restructures content for slides.

Finding 2: Tables Are the Hardest Element

Every tool struggled with complex tables. Common failures:

  • Merged cells lost their structure
  • Multi-row headers collapsed into one row
  • Column alignment shifted
  • Number formatting (currency, percentages) changed

Sharayeh and Adobe performed best because they recognize table structures and recreate them. Online converters often render tables as images or mangled text boxes.

Finding 3: Arabic PDFs Expose Major Gaps

Documents 15-17 (Arabic content) revealed significant quality differences:

Tool Doc 15 (letter) Doc 16 (report) Doc 17 (bilingual)
Sharayeh βœ… Full RTL, correct font βœ… Tables + charts preserved βœ… Both directions correct
Adobe ⚠️ Text correct, alignment off ⚠️ Tables broke ⚠️ English OK, Arabic shifted
SmallPDF ❌ Garbled Arabic ❌ Failed ❌
iLovePDF ❌ ❌ ❌
Aspose ⚠️ Text OK, no RTL ❌ ⚠️
Zamzar ❌ ❌ ❌

Finding 4: Slide-Format PDFs Convert Best

Document 9 (already in 16:9 slide format) converted well across all tools because the source layout already matches the target format. For non-slide-format PDFs, AI conversion is significantly better at restructuring content.

Finding 5: Scanned PDFs Need OCR First

Document 18 (scanned) required OCR. Only Sharayeh and Adobe handled this automatically. Online converters produced blank or image-only slides.

Finding 6: Error Handling Varies

Test Sharayeh Adobe SmallPDF iLovePDF Zamzar Aspose
Password-protected ⚠️ Asks for password βœ… Decrypts ❌ Rejects ❌ Rejects ❌ Rejects ⚠️ API error
Corrupted PDF ⚠️ Partial recovery ⚠️ Partial ❌ Error ❌ Error ❌ Error ❌ Error

Detailed Results by Document Type

Simple Documents (Docs 1, 6, 9)

All tools performed reasonably well. Differences were minor. Adobe and Sharayeh were slightly ahead.

Complex Documents (Docs 3, 10, 14)

Significant quality divergence. Sharayeh's AI approach restructured content into logical slides. Traditional converters produced slides with overlapping text boxes and page-replica layouts.

Arabic Documents (Docs 15-17)

Sharayeh was the only tool to produce usable Arabic slides. Adobe Acrobat extracted Arabic text correctly but didn't set RTL direction in the PPTX. All online converters failed.

Recommendations

Scenario Best Tool
General PDF conversion Sharayeh (AI quality) or Adobe (if you're already paying)
Arabic/RTL PDFs Sharayeh (only viable option)
Quick one-off conversion SmallPDF (good enough for simple PDFs)
Programmatic/API conversion Aspose (best API)
Scanned PDFs Sharayeh or Adobe (built-in OCR)

FAQ

Which PDF to PowerPoint converter is most accurate?

In our testing, Sharayeh scored highest overall (8.72/10), followed by Adobe Acrobat (7.65/10). Sharayeh's AI approach produces slides that look designed, not just converted.

Can I convert a PDF to PowerPoint for free?

Yes β€” Sharayeh's PDF to PPT tool is free with no signup. SmallPDF and iLovePDF offer limited free conversions (2/day).

Does the conversion preserve my PDF's formatting?

Partially. No tool achieves 100% format preservation because PDF and PowerPoint are fundamentally different formats. AI conversion (Sharayeh) gets closest by restructuring content for slides rather than trying to replicate exact layout.

Can I convert Arabic PDFs to PowerPoint?

Only Sharayeh handles Arabic PDF β†’ PowerPoint with correct RTL layout. Adobe Acrobat extracts text but doesn't set RTL direction. Other tools fail on Arabic content.
