Can't Google Slides already open a .pptx?

Why do my slides reflow after importing?
Almost always fonts. If your deck uses Calibri — PowerPoint's default and not a font Google hosts — Slides swaps it for something with different metrics, so line breaks move and text overflows its box. Substituting to a metric-similar Google font before importing is what prevents that.
Does it upload anything to my Google account?
No. There is no Google connection and no Drive access. You get a prepared .pptx back and import it yourself through File → Import slides, exactly as you would have done.
What happens to my SmartArt?
Slides flattens it into a static image on import; nothing can prevent that, because Slides has no SmartArt equivalent. The report tells you which slides are affected so you can rebuild those diagrams natively if they need to stay editable.
Will my charts still work?
Charts import and display, but they lose the link to their underlying data, so you edit values inside Slides afterwards rather than through a spreadsheet link. The report flags every slide that carries one.
What if it finds a font with no Google equivalent?
